Hi Stephanie! The first thing I’m drawn to in your portfolio is the neutral color palette. A lot of the projects you’ve showcased use a lot of cool tones, and the grey color of the overall site compliments that nicely. You also have a nice variety projects from logos and branding to animation. It’s a nice display of the range of your abilities. The concision of your works’ captions is also nice. It lets the work speak for itself in a way, which I think is a strong suit for someone who may only be skimming your portfolio.
Overall, I think your work is very strong, and I think it could be further emphasized with more assertive language in your artist statement and bio. I think it was discussed briefly in class, but saying that you’re a motion graphics artist is stronger than saying that you study or are interested in motion graphics. I also think you can elaborate more on “understanding yourself as an artist” that you mention in your artist statement. Maybe you can explain your motives behind the projects you showcase or display work that communicates your interests. I think you have a strong portfolio and it’s just a matter of backing it up with a confident attitude!

Hi Violet! I think the simplicity of your portfolio’s theme really compliments your more illustrative work. It’s clean and sleek, which helps emphasize the more colorful and playful work you’re showcasing. The three categories you have are very effective in displaying the range of your abilities. Also, the gallery collage of your work on the home page is a nice introduction to your body of work as a whole. It’s easy to see your style across all these different mediums.
You have a good amount of work displayed, and I think they could be further emphasized in how you document them. Your prints are especially nice, but I think scanning them or color balancing them could bring out the vivid colors and detailed lines. I also think you could elaborate on the services you offer clients in your about page. Maybe adding an example of what a “grab bag” looks like. Overall, though, I think you have a strong breadth of work displayed and a concise portfolio!

Hi Reana, I really love the aesthetic of your site! It’s very clean, consistent, and easy to navigate. It also compliments your projects well. All of the work you have displayed caters to clients who want nice, simplistic graphic design, and the site itself communicates that very well. I also appreciate how you discuss your process a bit in your about page. It feels like a good representation of your artistic practice.
My only critique would be for the home page. I think it could be a nice space to briefly show off your work or showcase your own branding as a graphic designer. Overall, however, I think your site is well designed and you have a good basis to add more projects in the future!
Gabriel Nunez: https://www.gabenunez.art/portfolio
Hi Gabriel, I think your site is very well organized and easy to navigate. The home page that displays your work flows well with each category you have listed. I also really appreciate the photos of your and your workspace in your about page. They’re nice personality/environment photos, and I honestly might integrate something more like that in my own portfolio. I also like the blog section of your site. It’s another aspect that I think really helps to show off your personality as an emergin artist! Overall, your site has a nice, welcoming vibe.
My critiques are mostly small, technical things. I think adding details like size and medium in your artworks’ captions would help communicate the breadth of your skills more. Also, documenting your work with more consistent backgrounds. I think your photos are nice and clear, but keeping the same background for each work could help your work feel more cohesive. Overall, I think you have a very strong body of work, and your site is a good base to add more work in the future!
