After asking a bunch of people to look over my website and navigate it on their own, here are the main insights I gained:
Home Page: A couple of people commented on how short the home page felt. They liked the previews of the types of art for the most part. But, they wanted a little more from the home page, almost like a hub to the rest of the site. I might add a footer or some type of link that can lead people to the ‘about’ or ‘contact’ pages to give it a little more content.
Hyperlinks: Every person I showed instinctually clicked on the images of the artwork to learn more about it or get more details. I think it would definitely help to hyperlink the images themselves in addition to the “details” link I have under each artwork. Maybe I could add hover text that leads people to the details, but I’d have to do research on how to program that.
Category Blurbs: Most people didn’t notice the short descriptions under each category, and those who did, don’t think it added much. I might just take those out entirely and let the work speak for itself.
Contact Page: Some recommended adding a short sentence on the “contact” page detailing what people may reach out to me for, like commissions or inquiries about any works displayed.
Overall, I think a got a positive response to my website so far. It feels pretty clean and my art stands out against the relatively simple site. Other than a few interface adjustments, I feel confident about my portfolio thus far. Obviously, I need to make more work to fill it up, but I think I have a good foundation to work with.
