American imperialism is an increasing threat to Filipinos both within and beyond the Philippines. The United States continuously exploits the Philippines and Philippines people in search of natural resources, cheap labor, and strategic military bases. The Philippine government is puppetered in order to create laws and legislation that prioritize American interests over Filipinos’ livelihoods, leading to poverty, displacement, and violence. This is not a hopeless case, however. By organizing, educating, and systematically waging campaigns that target these issues, the community can turn the tide even amongst worsening conditions. This work depicts a jeepney–a traditional vehicle of public transportation in the Philippines–crushing an American tank, vocalizing the aspiration that the Filipino people can and will rise up against U.S. imperialistic rule.
